However, when life gets busy and calendars get overscheduled taking the time to invest in your marriage tends to always get pushed to the side. The good news is there are so many ways that you can invest in your marriage both as a couple and also individually.
On the Move Investment
A few weeks ago we shared our favorite marriage blogs with you. Blogs are free and easy ways to gain wisdom and practical steps that can improve your marriage. Unfortunately, we realize that not everyone has the time to sit down and read a blog every day. We are people on the move, so we wanted to share some of our favorite podcasts with you.
These podcasts are free, packed with wisdom and Biblical truth for your marriage, and are easy to listen to as you move from one place to another.
Three of our Favorite Marriage Podcast
Expedition Marriage
I have just recently come across Expedition Marriage and I cannot get enough. This podcast is hosted by the founders of Expedition Marriage, Chris and Jamie Bailey. They are both licensed Christian counselors and marriage coaches. Their goal is to help you enjoy the journey of marriage by giving you hope, encouragement, and practical tips. Their podcasts are typically around 12 minutes so it is easy to start and finish them quickly and still get great wisdom to apply to your relationship.
Small Things Often
Small Things Often is a podcast offered by The Gottman Institute. Their goal is simple, in five minutes or less they offer you a research-proven tip that can help improve your marriage. We all can spare 5 minutes, right?
In these podcasts, you learn one thing you can take and implement in your marriage instantly. They believe that when we do the small things often our marriage can withstand the larger struggles without falling apart at the seams. What I love about this podcast is that it is super short, but also super practical. It is always something that I can implement that day to help strengthen my marriage.
Focus on the Family Marriage
Focus on the Family is a fantastic ministry that has been around for around 45 years. They are firmly established and founded on changing the world for the better. Its mission is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and redeem families worldwide.
Focus on the family has many ways they carry out their mission to redeem families but one way is by focusing on the importance of marriage. They offer a great podcast that focuses on Biblical-based advice that can draw you and your spouse closer to each other as you both are drawing closer to God.
Make Investing a Priority
We all live in a busy world. There will always be something that needs our attention. The to-do list will never be done and that’s ok. There will always be good things that can take up all our time if we let them. The trick is to prioritize your marriage in the midst of a busy schedule. And that might mean saying no to something good.
Just recently, Alex was telling me of an opportunity that he had. It was a good opportunity that would benefit him, but he chose to turn it down because it was not good timing for our marriage. He literally said, “It’s a good thing, but I am turning it down for a great thing.” There will always be good things, but are you saying yes to what is best?
There comes a time when you have to make your marriage a priority if it is going to thrive. Start by investing today. Take 15 minutes or less and listen to one of these podcasts. Then take it a step further and apply what you have learned in your marriage.
